Funded by Sport Manitoba, the Manitoba Paddling Asociation is a Provincial Sport Governing Body for competitive canoe, kayak and dragon boat in Manitoba. Our clubs offer year-round programs for youth and adults to maintain fitness and have fun on and off the water.

NOTICE TO ALL MPA MEMBERS

The Manitoba Paddling Association’s Annual General Meeting will be held:

Saturday, March 2, 1:00pm
Manitoba Canoe &Kayak Centre
80 Churchill Drive, Winnipeg

All participants, coaches, officials, and volunteers who were actively
involved in 2018 programs are welcome to attend. An Agenda will be posted
at www.mpa.mb.ca 2 weeks prior to the meeting. The AGM consists of
reports from the Board of Directors regarding their activities in the previous
year, a review of the previous year’s financial statements, discussion and
approval of any proposed changes to MPA’s Bylaws and/or Constitution,
and announcements regarding the outcome of elections or appointments to
the Board of Directors.
SUMMARY OF PROPOSED CHANGES TO MPA BYLAWS:
• Revisions have been made to ensure MPA’s Bylaws meet the
minimum requirements recommended by Sport Manitoba
• Classes of individual membership related to paddling discipline have
been eliminated
• Board of Directors positions previously assigned to paddling
disciplines (sprint, dragon boat, marathon/adult paddling) will become
NOS (not otherwise specified) positions with duties as decided by the
Board
• Votes are awarded to club & corporate members, and to individuals
named to the Provincial Team in November of the year preceding the
election; individual members of MPA or MPA clubs who are not
named to the Provincial Team are not awarded voting privileges
• Following discussion at the AGM, members will vote to approve or
reject the revised Bylaws
• The proposed draft Bylaws will be posted on the MPA website
(www.mpa.mb.ca) for review prior to the AGM
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS OR NOMINATIONS TO THE MPA BOARD:
Terms for three positions on the Board expire March 2, 2019. Nominations
OR volunteers are requested for the positions of President, Secretary &
Flatwater Director (position will change to director NOS upon approval of
new Bylaws). Please contact MPA Board member Greg Laxdal for more
information at greglaxdal@hotmail.com. Formal elections will not take
place in 2019 due to the evolving Bylaws; new directors will be appointed
by the outgoing Board.

Christmas Tree & Wreath Fundraiser

The Manitoba Canoe and Kayak Center is once again doing our annual Christmas Tree and Wreath Fundraiser for the Winnipeg area. Order forms are due November 25th and all orders will be delivered December 8th by our athletes and volunteers. 

We're also offering to pick up your Christmas tree whether you buy it from us or not! For only $10 we'll come pick up our Christmas Tree January 12th.

Next Generation of Canada Games Paddlers

We are looking for the next generation of Canada Games Paddlers! We are hosting an Intro to Paddling Training Camp July 3rd-6th (9am-4pm). Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the several types/disciplines of paddling. Early Bird, $100 paid by June 8th. No experience required, ages 12 and up are welcome!

The Dream Factory River City Dragon Boat Festival

You can now register for The 2018 Dream Factory River City Dragon Boat Festival! This year MPA has partnered with The Dream Factory, formerly known as The Rainbow Society. The Dream Factory is a Winnipeg based charitable organization dedicated to fulfilling dreams for Manitoba kids who are battling life- threatening illnesses. Their goal is simple, give kids the desperately needed break from hospitals, medical treatments and the very adult challenges that come with serious illness.
